We’ve ABSOLUTELY loved Slovenia – a country wedged between Austria to the north, Italy to the west, Croatia to the east and south. With half of its land covered in forest and only 2 million people to share it – it was our kind of country. It gave up to us a wealth of wonderful plants and memories that we will cherish for a very long time. Patient, kind and even tempered people. At no time in either Croatia or Slovenia have I ever heard an argument nor a cross word. No gang patches, groups of teenagers misbehaving, alleys that you’re not sure of… Nothing to worry a tourist. The roads are easy to navigate, well maintained and tar sealed.
I would strongly recommend anyone travelling to Croatia to give themselves at least three days in Slovenia – if only to go to their gorgeous capital city Ljubljana. We had ten days in Slovenia and could have stayed three weeks if we could. There were so many trails we could have walked. Slovenia is perfect for anyone wanting to enjoy the outdoors – especially further north. If you are a City person and want to visit galleries and museums – the capital Ljubljana with a population of just under 300,000 has them by the bucket load and it is SO PRETTY with its amazing architecture, canals, bridges and parks.
